Nephropathy Validation
  1. Acceptable Animal Models of RENAL Disease in Diabetes

    A good model should display a majority of the following criteria:

    1. Greater than 50% decline in GFR over the lifetime of the animal.
    2. 10-fold increase in albuminuria > controls for that strain at the same age and gender.
    3. C. Pathology of perfused Kidneys
      1. Mesangial Sclerosis
      2. Any degree of arteriolar hyalinosis
      3. GBM thickening by >50% baseline
      4. Tubulo-interstitial fibrosis
